<p>In order to adequately correct the chromaticity of a displayed image while obtaining high brightness in a display device, the disclosed liquid crystal display device (10) is provided with: a liquid crystal panel (11) comprising a liquid crystal layer (11c)-comprising a liquid crystal, which is a substance of which the optical characteristics change by means of the application of an electric field-provided between a pair of substrates (11a, 11b); and a backlight device (12) that radiates light towards the liquid crystal panel (11). A color filter (19), which comprises a plurality of colored sections (R, G, B, Y) that are each blue, green, red, or yellow, is formed on one of the pair of substrates (11a, 11b) in the liquid crystal panel (11). By contrast, the backlight device (12) is provided with LEDs (24) as a light source, and the LEDs (24) are each provided with an LED chip (24a), which is a source of light emission, and a fluorescent body, which is excited by the light from the LED chip (24a) and emits light. At least a YAG fluorescent body is contained in the fluorescent body.</p> |
