A method and apparatus for optimizing power consumption of a terminal are disclosed. The method comprises: acquiring the current time point at terminal running (101); acquiring a preset state corresponding to a time period in which the time point locates from a time period-state information table, wherein, the preset state is a running state preset in the time period-state information table (102); performing corresponding state transition to the terminal in accordance with the preset state (103). By this technical solution, due to a time period-state information table with a variety of preset running states included, a user can set a time period and a preset state corresponding to the time period in the time period-state information table in accordance with specific condition of using a terminal, thus state transition based on the time period-state information table for the terminal is enabled, so as to reduce power consumption of the terminal, avoid user manipulation on running state transition by manual, and improve user experience.
