The method involves representing display contents on a display surface (10) which has a partial view (12) of an overall view of a graphical object. The changed display contents have a miniature overall view (13) of a graphical object, in which the partial view if visually marked. The miniature overall view of the object is represented such that a corner- or edge region of the partial view is covered. An independent claim is also included for a device for operating a user interface of a vehicle.
