The method involves outputting a digital useful signal by an analog to digital (A/D) converter (10), and comparing the digital useful signal with a comparison signal, where the comparison signal is produced by prediction of a prediction filter. The prediction of the prediction filter is provided as an output during testing, and the comparison signal is preset by a test signal memory. The digital useful signal is produced by converting an analog useful signal and/or a test signal, and the analog useful signal and the test signal are switched between each other. An independent claim is also included for a circuit configuration comprising a prediction filter for producing a comparison value.
