Encapsulated compositions comprising a core containing at least one surfactant having a HLB of 7 or greater and an active component and an exterior coating encapsulating the core, wherein the exterior coating is made of a material consisting of polyolefins, polyesters, waxes, zein or combinations thereof are described. Active components include sweeteners, flavours, medicaments, breath fresheners, analgesics, anti-histamines, decongestants, antacids, vitamins, dietary supplements, caffeine and nicotine. Methods for controlling, extending and/or increasing the flavour release from the said composition, preferably chewing gum, are also disclosed. |
