Polyamide fibres are treated with per-compounds or detergent compositions containing per-compounds in the presence of an organic compound which contains at least two nitrogen-containing groups, of which one is a primary or secondary amino group or an >NH group forming part of a saturated heterocyclic ring and the other or another is a primary, secondary or tertiary amino group or an >NH group forming part of a saturated heterocyclic ring or an N-carboxyamino or sulphonamide group, the two above defined groups being linked together by an aromatic or saturated ring system or by a hydrocarbon residue which may be interrupted by hetero-atoms, in which ring system or residue one or more of the hydrogen atoms may be replaced by another radical. Examples given of the compound are N, N1-diphenylguanidine, N-phenylbiguanide, ethylene diamine, hexamethylene diamine, N-carboxy-ethylene diamine, piperazine, N, N1-dimethyl-p -phenylene diamine, N, N-dimethyl-p -phenylene diamine, p-aminobenzene sulphonamide, ethylene diamine oxalate, the N-carbamic acid salt of ethylene diamine and N, N1-diphenyl-ethylene diamine. The per-compound may be hydrogen peroxide or sodium perborate and the treatment baths may also contain magnesium or sodium silicate, sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium sulphate, a normal or anhydrous phosphate, sodium pyrophosphate or soap. In Example 4 the fabric treated is of a mixture of nylon and viscose rayon.ALSO:Detergent compositions containing percompounds are made more suitable for the treatment of polyamide fibres by including in the compositions an organic compound which contains at least two nitrogen-containing groups, of which one is a primary or secondary amino group or an >NH group forming part of a saturated heterocyclic ring and the other or another is a primary, secondary or tertiary amino group or an >NH group forming part of a saturated heterocyclic ring or an N - carboxyamino or sulphonamide group, the two above defined groups being linked together by an aromatic or saturated ring system or by a hydrocarbon residue which may be interrupted by hetero-atoms, in which ring system or residue one or more of the hydrogen atoms may be replaced by another radical. Examples given of the compound are N, N1 - diphenylguanidine, N - phenylbiguanidine, ethylene diamine, hexamethylene diamine, N - carboxy - ethylene diamine, piperazine, N, N1 - dimethyl - p - phenylene diamine, N, N - dimethyl - p - phenylene diamine, - p - aminobenzene sulphonamide, ethylene diamine oxalate, the N - carbamic acid salt of ethylene diamine and N, N1 - diphenylethylene diamine. The percompound may be hydrogen peroxide or sodium perborate and the compositions may also contain magnesium or sodium silicate, sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium sulphate, a normal or anhydrous phosphate, sodium pyrophosphate or soap. |
