PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery wherein an electrode assembly as a power generating element is prevented from being damaged and electrical connection of the electrode assembly is stabilized, and also to provide a battery module including the same. SOLUTION: A secondary battery includes: the electrode assembly having a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate, and a separator located between the first and second electrode plates, wherein the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate each have an active material layer and a non-coated part; a case for housing the electrode assembly; a first current collector and a second current collector electrically coupled to the electrode assembly; and a retainer coupled to the electrode assembly and the first current collector to fix the first current collector to the electrode assembly. Since a free movement of the electrode assembly is prevented and thereby electrical connection of the electrode assembly is stabilized, the secondary battery and a battery module that are improved in durability and reliability against external shock and vibration can be obtained.
