<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multicolor electrochromic device and a method for manufacturing the same, a multicolor electrochromic device, an electrolyte for the same, and a control system and method for the electrochromic device. <P>SOLUTION: A pixel made of a first color electrochromic material is disposed in a first section 731 on a substrate 710 in a state where a pixel made of a second color elecrochromic material is in a second section 733. A first and second color two-dimensional pattern is defined, and colors are created or a mixed color is created by changing an electric field or current applied to each pixel. The electrolyte 740 comprisesγ-butyrolactone (gamma-butyrolactone) and may contain polymethyl methacrylate. The electrolyte 740 may further contain salt, or propylene carbonate.
