PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of preventing fade-away of a discharge lamp, while preventing degradation of the discharge lamp, as much as possible, for a discharge lamp lighting control device for controlling the lighting state of the discharge lamp. SOLUTION: In the discharge lamp lighting device, the detection result of a current value concerning a current flowing in the discharge lamp is obtained, and supply power showing power supplied to the discharge lamp is generated so as to be a preset target value. Then, when a period in which the current value obtained is less than a threshold, showing the current value 0 exceeds a reference value set at a period shorter than that from the time the power is stopped being supplied to the discharge lamp until the time the discharge lamp is lit off, supply power generated is made increased from the target value. According to such a discharge lamp lighting device, supply power supplied to the discharge lamp is increased, before the discharge lamp goes off so that impressing of voltage on the discharge lamp can be set higher than when the supply power is the target value.
