PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dot impact printer which prevents printing contents from being estimated from printing sound. SOLUTION: For printing letters based on printing data on a recording sheet in the dot impact printer including a plurality of mechanism parts 80, the mechanism part 80 performs printing operation for forming dots on the recording sheet by slamming a printing wire 81 on an ink ribbon by sucking an armature part 82b of a printing lever 82 by using a printing electromagnet 83 (operation from Fig.(a) to Fig.(b)). The mechanism part 80 which does not perform the printing operation performs sound generating operation for making a fulcrum part 82d collide with a sound generating member 89 by sucking the armature part 82c of the printing lever 82 by a sound-generating electromagnet 84 (operation from Fig.(a) to Fig.(c)).
