PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring device and method for acquiring status information about a monitoring target device, only when a status of the monitoring target device is changed, and also for generating image data. SOLUTION: The monitoring device includes: a message receiving unit 121 for receiving messages 111 in real time from a plurality of monitoring target devices 30 and for storing the received messages 111 in a memory 11; an analysis unit 122 for analyzing whether the messages 111 acquired from the memory 11 show a change in a status of any one of the monitoring target devices 30; a collection part 123 for gathering status information 112 showing the status of change for a monitoring target device 30 showing the change when the messages 111 show the change in status and for storing the gathered status information 112 in the memory 11; and a communication control unit 124 for generating screen data 114 for display in a screen of a monitoring terminal 20 based on the status information 112 acquired from the memory 11 and for transmitting the image data to the monitoring terminal 20.
