The invention relates to medicine, more specifically prosthodontics, and concerns a denture adhesive composition comprising an adhesive component, namely carboxyalkylated chitosan derivatives, a crosslinking component, namely magnesium chloride or calcium chloride, and, additionally, agar-agar and citric acid. The composition can be used for the temporary fixation of dentures in the oral cavity.
