PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make improvement to aim at reduction of power consumption of an electromagnet by suppressing sliding friction force acting between a contactor holder and its guide face, in a driving process of slide-operating the contactor holder to an operating position against its return spring by driving of a hinge-type electromagnet. SOLUTION: For the electromagnetic contactor performing control of switching a contact by slide-operating the contactor holder 3 at an operating position by the drive of the electromagnet by linking the contactor holder 3 guiding and supporting in free sliding along a bottom wall of an upper case in combination with the return spring and an armature 2d of the hinge-type electromagnet housed in a lower case, the contactor holder 3 has an operating arm 3b fitted at a side end part opposite to the return spring faced to a tip part of the armature 2d of the electromagnet. An engagement step 2d-1 facing the operating arm 3b is formed at a tip-end corner of the armature 2d, and on this step, the operating arm 3b is loaded and its perpendicular load is to be received with the armature 2d.
