PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve visibility by suitable control adaptive to environment, even when external light such as sunlight is directly applied to a panel front surface, for example. SOLUTION: The display device 10, in which display cells are formed in pixel units in a matrix on a glass substrate, includes: an illuminance sensor 120 embedded in units of one or a plurality of pixels on the glass substrate; and a control unit 12 for adjusting the contrast of an input video supplied to the display cell in the position corresponding to the unit based on the illuminance information acquired from the illuminance sensor 120.
