PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder which performs a recording by discharging an ink containing color material and the treatment liquid for reacting with the ink and prevents the occurrence of solidification while leaving the ink and the treatment liquid adhered to a recording head. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder has the recording head for discharging the ink and treatment liquid. The ink jet recorder has a recovering mechanism for applying a recovery processing to the recording head for performing at least either one of the operation for suppressing the thickening of the ink and treatment liquid stored in the recording head and the operation for removing the ink and treatment liquid adhered to the recording head. The ink jet recorder has the first recording mode for discharging an ink from an ink discharging port and making a record with accompanying the discharge of treatment liquid, and the second recording mode for discharging an ink and making a record without causing the discharge of liquid treatment from a treatment liquid discharging port.
