<p>Disclosed are: a biaxially oriented polyester film, of which the defects can be detected easily in an optical test, and which generates an extremely small amount of oligomer precipitates and is suitable for, for example, the production of various display component members including the production of liquid crystal component members such as liquid crystal polarizing plates and retardation films, the production of PDP component members and the production of organic EL component members, and is also suitable for various optical use applications; and a release film. Specifically disclosed are: a biaxially oriented polyester film which comprises a polyester film having the angle of an orientation main axis of 11° or less and a film haze value of 10 to 25% and a coating layer containing a silane compound and formed on at least one surface of the polyester film, wherein the oligomer content in the surface of the coating layer is 3.0 mg/m2 or less when the film is heated at 180°C for five minutes; and a release film which comprises the above-mentioned film and a release layer formed on the coating layer in the film, and which has a peel force of 10 to 100 mN/cm.</p> |
