<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for laser cladding useful for automatically controlling the accumulation of a material on a substrate and for manufacturing a metal component by repeated cladding operation required for small lot production or prototype operation, etc. <P>SOLUTION: A laser cladding system (102) is used to accumulate a laminated body of a material on a substrate by heating a localized spot on the substrate forming a melt pool into which the material is fed to create a deposit having a physical dimension. An optical detector coupled to an optoelectric sensor which receives light through a mask with an aperture is used to monitor a physical dimension of the deposit, and a feedback controller (104) adjusts a laser in accordance with an electrical signal, thereby controlling the rate of material deposition. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
