PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an LD control device which accurately determines the deterioration state of a semiconductor laser (LD) on the basis of drive current detected by a current detection means, and secures an excellent quality of image, and also to provide an image forming device having the LD control device. SOLUTION: The LD control device is equipped with: a reference voltage generation means for generating a reference voltage Vc to set a quantity of light of a semiconductor laser; an LD driver 56 for controlling the quantity of light from the semiconductor laser with use of an output current Im of a light receiving element on the basis of the reference voltage Vc; a drive current detection means for detecting a drive current supplied to the semiconductor laser by an LD driver; and a deterioration state determination means for making the semiconductor laser emit light at two different predetermined reference voltages Vc1 and Vc2 (Vc1<Vc2) generated by the reference voltage generation means, making the drive current detection means detect drive currents I1 and I2 based on the reference voltages Vc1 and Vc2, and determining the deterioration state of the semiconductor laser on the basis of a differenceΔI1 (ΔI1=I2-I1) between the two detected drive currents.
