The headrest has a basic component (1.1) fastened with a vehicle seat (5). A movable heading section is provided with a carrier part (1.2) and a movable head surface (1.3) for supporting a vehicle occupant. A safety device moves the heading section relative to the basic component due to vehicle and/or occupant acceleration. An adjustment device (2.1) moves the head surface relative to the carrier part. The carrier part is positioned by the adjustment device relative to the base component, where the head surface is positioned relative to the carrier part. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle seat comprising a mechanical and/or electronic release device.
