<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a digital image by a system which is more efficient and less expensive. <P>SOLUTION: An apparatus for forming a color image includes a first, second, and third illumination sources 14r, 14g, 14b, each can provide continuous illumination of a first, second, or third wavelength band, respectively, to an optical multiplexer 25. The optical multiplexer 25 can cyclically switch received light from each one of the illumination sources to each one of a first, second, and third projector channels in a repeated sequence. The first projector channel is connected to a first projector 11a, the second channel is connected to a second projector 11b, and the third channel is connected to a third projector 11c. Each projector apparatus includes a light modulator 12 that can operate to form an image from the light of the first, second, or third wavelength band that is cyclically switched onto its projector channel from the optical multiplexer 25. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
