PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a nanofiber applicable to e.g., highly oriented fibers, particularly fibers composed of a p-aramid polymer making neither thermofusion nor being soluble to any organic solvents. SOLUTION: The method for producing a nanofiber includes the following highly oriented fiber: dry ice granules or liquefied carbon dioxide is hit via a nozzle 4 against the filament yarns or fiber assembly 5 of highly oriented fibers moving at a speed of not less than 1 and not more than 100 m/min to make at least part of the fibers of the filament yarns or fiber assembly 5 into nanofibers; wherein it is preferable that the fiber assembly 5 is moved on a fixed net 3.
