<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for aerobic decomposition of a short chained polyethoxylate of alkylphenol which is a metabolite of a nonionic surfactant, and alkylphenol by a microorganism. <P>SOLUTION: The invention relates to the method for treating waste water in an aerobic condition by using the microorganisms belonging to genus Ensifer or genus Pseudomonas having potential to assimilate compounds represented in formula (1) wherein n is 0, 1 or 2.
