A system (100, Fig. 1 ) for providing fuel economy information in a motor vehicle is provided. The system comprises a first mechanism configured to determine a first fuel economy (D, Fig. 3 ) using a first process based on fuel volume (A', Fig. 3 ) delivered to the engine; a second mechanism configured to determine a second fuel economy (C, Fig. 3 ) using a second process based on fuel volume (A, Fig. 3 ) withdrawn from the fuel tank (160, Fig. 1 ); and a mechanism configured to generate a fuel economy offset (FEO) based on the first and second fuel economy figures. The system displays a corrected fuel economy measure (Y) based on the initial fuel economy measure (X) determined in accordance with the first process using the fuel economy offset. A method of providing fuel economy information in a motor vehicle is also provided.
