A process for reducing the amount of TFMA (trifluoromethylacetylene, 3,3,3-trifluoropropyne) in a composition comprising R-1234 (1,3,3,3- and/or 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene) and TFMA comprises distillative separation. The R-1234 may comprise R-1234ze and/or R-1234yf; the R-1234ze may be (E)-2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene. The process may give R-1234ze comprising less than 500ppm w/w TFMA. The process may provide R-1234 which is non-flammable. A product may consist essentially of R-1234ze(E) and less than 40 ppm TFMA. A composition may consist essentially of R-1234ze(E), R-134a and optionally R-744. Continuous or semi-continuous fractional distillation of TFMA from R-1234ze(E) may be effective; simple batch distillation may be ineffective. R-1234 may be useful as a refrigerant.
