<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal panel having excellent screen contrast and a small color shift without adding a complicated means and to provide a liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal panel including a first polarizer, a first optical compensation layer, a liquid crystal cell, a second optical compensation layer and a second polarizer in this order, the first optical compensation layer satisfies formula (1): nx>ny>nz and formula (2): 2≤(nx-nz)/(nx-ny)≤20, the second optical compensation layer satisfies the formula (1) and formula (3): 0.97<Δnd(x)/Δnd(590)<1.05, a slow axis of the first optical compensation layer is parallel to an absorption axis of the first polarizer and a slow axis of the second optical compensation layer is orthogonal to an absorption axis of the second polarizer, wherein nx denotes the refractive index in the slow axis direction, ny denotes the refractive index in a fast axis direction, nz denotes the refractive index in the thickness direction, Δnd(x) denotes a retardation value within the plane measured by using light having a wavelength x (450 nm≤x≤700nm) and Δnd(590) denotes a retardation value within the plane measured by using light having 590 nm wavelength. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
