A method is illustrated and described for use of hydrogen, which is provided via a bounded pipe network, by means of fuel cells which are provided for end users. In order to avoid the disadvantages of the prior art, in order to allow fuel cells to be operated highly dynamically and cost-effectively, and in order to simplify the transition from the present-day electricity-based energy economy to an economy based on replenishable hydrogen, the invention provides that purified natural gas and hydrogen be fed into the pipe network and be transported to the end users, that the end users draw a mixture of hydrogen and natural gas from the pipe network, that the proportion of hydrogen in the mixture at the end users is used at least partially for electricity generation by at least one fuel cell, and that the mixture of hydrogen and natural gas be used by in each case at least one gas burner for heat generation after leaving the fuel cell at the end users. |
