Producing a catalyst, comprises (a) producing an aqueous suspension comprising red mud and at least one calcium salt, (b) heating the suspension to a temperature of 25-78[deg] C, and (c) removing at least most part of an aqueous phase from a solid product mixture produced in step (b), where the solid product mixture comprises the catalyst. Independent claims are included for: (1) the catalyst, obtained by the above process; and (2) cracking at least an organic carbon compound using the catalyst, comprising (a1) mixing the catalyst with at least one of the organic carbon compound, (b1) heating the mixture, and (c1) separating at least a gaseous reaction product of at least one solid reaction product. |
