The bed has a main barrier element associated with a deformable parallelogram mechanism hinged to a frame (12) of the bed or to an analogous structure. Two parallel arms provide a hinge (21a) to the frame and a hinge (21b) to the main barrier element. A hinge deployment bar (26) is hinged between the arms. The mechanism is associated with a bottom extender (34) attached to the deployment bar by a sliding connection with hinge pins (50a, 50b). The extender slides along vertical guide units carried by the main barrier elements. The pins are engaged in respective slots of the extender.
