A multibeam sounder placed on a marine or submarine platform is disclosed. The sounder comprises two transmit/receive antennas (1, 10), the respective axes of which are off-aimed to the front, in the direction of movement of the platform and are symmetrical with respect to a straight line (3) passing through their intersection and parallel to the direction of advance of the platform. The transmit frequency of the first antenna is equal to the receive frequency of the second which is different from the transmit frequency of the second, this latter frequency being equal to the receive frequency of the first antenna. This arrangement makes it possible to anticipate obstacles and objects of interest, such as fixed obstacles or shoals of fish, which the platform may encounter on its route.
