A method for operating a virtual cash system over a wireless communication network, implemented by an apparatus, is disclosed. The method comprises: (a) wirelessly receiving at a wireless device available cash information transmitted over the wireless communication network and corresponding to an amount of money deposited in an account record associated with the wireless device, to enable a user determined portion of the amount of money to be spent directly from the wireless device as cash in a transaction; (b) generating an indicator of the available cash information and the account record by the wireless device; (c) providing the indicator to a merchant's device to enable the account record to be identified and debited for the user determined portion of the amount of money; and (d) wirelessly receiving at the wireless device, an updated available cash information transmitted over the wireless communication network and comprising a new available cash amount after a debiting of the account record for the transaction. |
