A conveyor comprising a thermoplastic, toothed belt having a substantially flat surface on one side of the belt, a plurality of teeth on the other side of the belt, where the belt has an unsupported span, is disclosed. The teeth are adapted to be driven with little or no tension and with minimal friction around a drive sprocket. A troughing means causes the belt to form a longitudinal trough in the unsupported span of the belt.
