Disclosed is a method of preparing a compound having a glycerolic backbone and at least one oxidized moiety containing a residue attached to the glycerolic backbone via an ether bond, the compound having the general Formula II as defined within the claim set, the method comprising the following steps: providing a first compound having a glycerolic backbone as defined within the claims which includes at least one hydroxyl group; providing a second compound comprising 6-30 carbon atoms including an unsaturated moiety which is capable of oxidative cleavage and at least one leaving group for forming an ether bond with said hydroxyl group; reacting said first and second compounds to obtain and collect a third compound; providing a solution of said third compounds in a non-polar solvent whereby said third compound is soluble and impurities are insoluble; removal of said insoluble impurities; removal of said non-polar solvent to obtain a purified third compound; reaction of said purified third compound with an oxidizing agent comprising a mixture of periodate and permanganate to obtain a fourth compound; and isolation of said fourth compound by phase-seperation.
