Disclosed herein is the use of 2-amino-2[4-(3-benzyloxyphenylthio)-2-chlorophenyl]ethyl-1,3-propanediol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or a hydrate thereof in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of an inflammatory bowel disease; such as Crohn's disease, Crohn's disease in large intestine, intestinal Behcet's disease, ulcerative colitis, bleeding rectal ulcer, or pouchitis. The medicament may also be formulated for administration with at least one further therapeutic agent for an inflammatory bowel disease.
