PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems that a maintenance is automatically executed each time without exception even when user does not feel the need for the maintenance in a printing system, and the system has been not so easy to handle for user. SOLUTION: In the printing system, the actual measurement value indicating the discharging condition of the ink discharged from a nozzle is measured, and it is determined by using the measurement result which is the ink discharge condition among the three conditions of a normal condition, an unstable discharge condition and a clogging condition. When it is determined that there is a nozzle under the unstable discharge condition, a check image containing a nozzle check pattern used for the visual checking of the generating situation of the unstable discharge condition is printed, and after printing the check image, the user's instruction showing whether the execution of the maintenance for canceling the unstable discharge condition is needed is received, and when the user's instruction shows the need of the execution of the maintenance, the maintenance is executed.
