PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element which can perform dimming stabilized without complicating circuit configuration. SOLUTION: The organic EL element A has a light emitting function layer 3, including at least an organic light emitting layer 3c, formed between an anode 2 and a cathode 4. In one light emission unit comprising a laminate place of the anode 2 and cathode 4, the light emitting function layer 3 is characterized in having at least two or more kinds of light emitting regions from which light emission starting potential differs. The light emitting function layer 3 includes a hole injection layer 3a formed partially between the anode 2 and organic light emitting layer 3c, and has, as the light emitting regions, a region where the hole injection hole 3a is formed and a region where the hole injection layer 3a is not formed.
