The method involves loading output capacitors (16-19) over an inductor (L). A level of a voltage pulse is adjusted, where the pulse level is less than 2 percent, and is varied. A pockels cell (11) is addressed with the voltage pulse via switch-on time of semiconductor switches (12-15) e.g. bipolar transistors, voltage of a direct voltage supply (25) and/or a transmission ratio of a transmitter. Energy in the inductors is stored, where the stored energy is reloaded in the capacitors or the switches. Rising and/or falling edges of the pulse comprise a slope greater than 40 volts per nanosecond. An independent claim is also included for a circuit for supplying pockels cell with a voltage pulse comprising semiconductor switches switched in series.
