<p>Disclosed are an ion-generating device and a method for determining the presence or absence of ions that are able to prevent a decrease in accuracy of determining the presence or absence of ions resulting from the effect of humidity. Ion generators 6a and 6b and ion generators 6c and 6d are turned on at different timings; a measurement unit (67) measures the electric potential of a collecting electrode (66), which collects generated ions; and when the difference in output voltages of the measurement unit (67) exceeds (or falls below) a threshold, it is determined that ions are present (or absent). Also, a humidity detection unit (80) is disposed within a duct (5); the threshold of determination is set in response to the humidity detected by the humidity detection unit; and when the detected humidity is at least a predetermined humidity, the presence or absence of ions is not determined. When the number of times it is determined that ions are absent reaches a predetermined number, an operator is alerted by means of an LED of a display unit, a buzzer of an operation unit, or the like.</p> |
