PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a display image when changing the display image, while suppressing an increase in power consumption. SOLUTION: A drive control apparatus for an electrophoretic display unit performs drive control on the electrophoretic display unit. When detecting a writing request for a new display image to be displayed on the electrophoretic display unit, a display change preprocessing portion 110C controls the pixel electrode and the common electrode for the pixel displaying black color to have an equal potential before controlling voltage of the pixel electrode for each pixel and the common electrode to voltages corresponding to the new display image.
