PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical board supporting device having an inconspicuous compact size, having good display appearance, having excellent load bearing, having a shelf support considerably simply operated to be mounted and dismounted and rigidly fixed. SOLUTION: The shelf board supporting device includes a shelf post 2 having multiple, narrow, vertically elongated, diamond-shaped mounting holes 23 vertically disposed in the surface of a strip-shaped flat portion 21 at regular spaced intervals, and the shelf support 1 provided in a projecting manner with insertion pieces 12 and 14a fitted and inserted into the mounting hole 23, at the ends of a horizontal shelf mounting plate portion 11 and a vertical supporting plate portion 14 extending to the shelf mounting plate portion 11 and keeps the horizontal width of the insertion piece 12 projecting from the shelf mounting plate portion 11 set to be larger than the maximum width of the mounting hole 23, and smaller than the vertical length of the mounting hole 23.
