The method involves arranging a protective pipe at a groove. A sub area of a bearing housing (10), is formed with the reduced wall thickness (15). The sub area has L-shaped end area which is transformed from inner side to outer side (17). The end area is expanded from inner side to outer side by a rolling device. An independent claim is also included for a bearing housing which is made of metallic diecasting, particularly aluminum diecasting.
