The device (1) has a support (2) arranged in a transition region from an exterior wall of a drinking jar i.e. beer jug (20), to an inner side of a handle (21) of the drinking jar, and a thumb holding part (5) connected to the support. An additional support (4) e.g. pad and/or insulation support, is connected with the support, and lies at an outer side of the drinking jar. The support is releasable fastenable to the handle by using a retaining unit (3), where length of the support amounts to 4 to 8 cm, and breadth of the support amounts to 1 to 3 cm. The supports are made from water-repelling material e.g. leather, loden, foamed rubber, felt, fleece material, textile material, hard plastic or soft plastic or PTFE. The support comprise a cavity that is filled with a liquid with low or high density, a foam material, a gel, a silicone rubber or other polymers with high elasticity and/or large softness or air.
