The method involves automatically executing a user identification process during starting a motor vehicle (1) and receiving a customs reference to a driver assistance system (2) by a driver in dependence of the result of the user identification process. A sequential monitoring of the respective momentary driver condition is carried out during the operation of the motor vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle for the execution of a driver supporting method, which has a reference device.
