Disclosed are: an aqueous solution of a high purity copper sulfonate; and a method for producing the aqueous solution of a high purity copper sulfonate by a simple procedure. Specifically disclosed is an aqueous solution of a high purity copper sulfonate, which is characterized in that: the copper concentration is not less than 90 g/L, the contents of metal impurities are respectively less than 10 mg/L in terms of metals; the chlorine content is less than 10 mg/L; and the sulfonic acid is represented by the following general formula. R-(SO3H)n (In the formula, R represents a lower alkyl group, a lower alkylidene group, a lower alkylene group or a hydroxyalkyl group; and n represents 1 or 2.)
