PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a database management apparatus that prevents a faulty client from failing in unlocking without requiring extra functions and communication. SOLUTION: The database management apparatus includes a database management unit 15 for managing a database 11, a communication monitor 12 for monitoring the state of communication with a client 20, a fault determiner 13 for determining that the client 20 is at fault when no communication is made for a fixed time from the client 20 acquiring a lock of the database 11 according to the result of monitoring by the communication monitor 12, and an locking operation unit 14 for forcibly releasing the lock acquired by the client 20 when the fault determiner 13 determines that the client 20 is at fault.
