PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a plasma display panel which secures high reliability and takes into consideration an environmental problem. SOLUTION: The plasma display panel has a display electrode and a dielectric layer formed on one of the substrates. The dielectric layer contains MoO<SB>2</SB>and an alkali metal element and does not contain in substance a lead component and a bismuth component.
