PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device that secures uniformity in quantity of light to an incident region of a light guide even when light distribution characteristics of a light source are deviated, or when the light source and light guide are varies in installation position, and also to provide a contact type image sensor using the same. SOLUTION: The lighting device includes the light source 1; the light guide 5 which irradiates a body 12 to be irradiated with light while guiding light from the light source 1 in a readout-width direction; and an optical path conversion means 4 that has an incidence surface portion 4c and a projection portion 4d provided with many through-holes 4b and a path conversion portion 4e positioned between the incidence surface portion 4c and projection portion 4d, and is interposed between the light source 1 and light guide 5, optical fiber lines 4a being inserted into the through-holes 4b of the incidence surface portion 4c such that optical fiber lines 4a on a center side of the incidence surface portion 4c are bent at the path conversion portion 4e to be arranged on an outer circumferential side of the projection surface portion 4d, and optical fiber lines 4a on an outer circumferential side of the incidence surface portion 4c are bent at the path conversion portion 4e to be arranged on a center side of the projection surface portion 4d.
