<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device capable of improving light extraction efficiency and reliability. <P>SOLUTION: A light emitting device includes: a package body 20 in which a recess 21 containing an organic EL element unit 1 is formed at one surface and electrical paths 25 and 27 electrically connected to wiring layers 15 and 17 are formed, respectively; a package lid 30 joined to one surface side of the package body 20 in an airtight manner; and connection parts 45 and 47 electrically connecting the wiring layers 15 and 17 with the electrical paths 25 and 27 in the package body 20, respectively. The package body 20 has a step 24 having a step surface 24a<SB>1</SB>that defines a distance between an inner bottom surface 22 of the recess 21 and a translucent substrate 10 of the organic EL element unit 1 in an inner periphery surface 23 comprising a part of the inner surface of the recess 21 of the package body. In the package body, a positioning part 26 for positioning the organic EL element unit 1 is constituted of the step surface 24a<SB>1</SB>and a surface 24b<SB>2</SB>rising from the step surface 24a<SB>1</SB>, and there exists a space 50 between a surface of a recessed and projecting structure 19 and the inner bottom surface 22 of the recess 21. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
