WATER-SOLUBLE ANIONIC BACTERIOCHLOROPHYLL DERIVATIVE AND USE THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide bacteriochlorophyll derivatives (Bchls) for photodynamic therapy and diagnosis.

SOLUTION: Anionic water-soluble tetracyclic and pentacyclic bacteriochlorophyll derivatives (Bchls) containing at least one, preferably two or three, negatively charged groups and/or acidic groups that are converted to negatively charged groups at a physiological pH value, and used for photodynamic therapy and diagnosis are provided. Preferably, the Bchls have a group COO-, COS-, SO3-or PO32-, COOH, COSH, SO3H and/or PO3H2bound through an ester or amide bond to one or more of the positions 173, 133and 32of the tetracyclic or pentacyclic Bchl molecule.
