PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating position detector, capable of determining an operating position with a fewer number of magnetic sensors than a number of operating positions that are objects to be detected, capable of eliminating trouble of detecting each operating position even if one of the magnetic sensor is failed, and capable of giving a good operational feeling to a user. SOLUTION: A shift position detector 1 is roughly composed of a magnet 10 arranged on a shift lever 22, a first to a fourth MR sensors 11-14 as magnetic sensors, and a control section 15 as a determination section. Each position is determined based on the determination results of the output of the first to the fourth MR sensors 11-14 and shift position information 160 to which the position is correlated.
