A primary cell has a depolarizer of basic mercuric sulphate. The electrolyte may be a 10-25 per cent aqueous solution of magnesium, zinc or alkali metal sulphate with a small amount of chromate inhibitor, e.g. potassium chromate. Carbon is preferably mixed with the basic mercuric sulphate and a carbon rod used as cathode. The anode may be zinc, magnesium or aluminium. Specification 610,719 is referred to. |
